I have been watching her videos since middle school and her channel has gone through significant changes, I love her videos now because they mostly focus on travel.
Micaela is a Canadian that has been living in Fukuoka, Japan for 14 years. He did a pretty big project a year or so ago where he cycled across Japan and vlogged about it, so if you are interested in travel blogs as well, he is another great channel to follow. Whenever I have a bad day, I just open up his channel and watch a random video, and it can completely turn my day around.
His videos are by far the FUNNIEST of all the YouTubers I am talking about today. These videos are more casual, but can sometimes be good just to see what daily life in Japan is like, make a bad mood into a good one by watching the pup, or for more beginner/intermediate Japanese study tips (as her husband only started learning a few years back and is now at an N2 level).Ībroad in Japan is a channel run by Chris Broad, a man from the UK who has also lived in Japan for many years. Her husband and adorable pup Lily also moved to Japan a couple years ago, so they have a second channel called Boomlore that they both make videos on life in Japan. However, some of her videos are in all Japanese, some in English, and some are a mix of both, so you should thumb through her videos to figure out which ones are best for you. She also has some great videos about l ife in Japan, scholarships, visas, and more specific things for those who are thinking of moving to Japan.
If you are an intermediate/advanced level Japanese learner, I think her videos give great tips and advice for studying techniques and some really nit-picky things about speaking the language. She is my absolute favorite YouTuber for Japan & Japanese-related content. I talked about Kemushichan in our previous JLPT blog, but her videos are a wonderful mix of travel blogs, daily life in Japan, and Japanese studying resources. There are many youtube accounts I follow that are Japan-related, so today I am going to share some of my favorite ones. Youtube is great because I can watch it for hours if I’m bored, or if I am super busy, I can just let it play in the background while I am working. Therefore, I have been spending a lot of time watching or listening to youtube videos.
